Join East New York Community Land Trust (ENYCLT) and the Center for Brooklyn History (CBH) at the New Lots Library for our Memories Matter workshop series. We are sharing our East New York pride, and celebrating the history and character of the neighborhood through a community- and creative-based workshop. On Saturday June 15th we will focus on the environment and natural world:

The first part will consist of history content and materials from CBH’s archives on the environmental history and legacy of East New York. It will include interactive discussions around the history of our environment in the area.

The second part will be a hands-on artistic activity and will be facilitated by local artist Sandrine Saint Louis. The activity focuses on reclaiming the land: participants will create their own personalized gardens to reflect on their individual experiences while also paying tribute to the beauty and necessity of nature. We will be focusing on plants native to NYC’s boroughs to create our abundant artwork.

Sandrine Saint Louis, also known as Lady Brown, is a passionate illustrator continuously seeking ways to contribute her creative assets. Sandrine graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Illustration and a minor in Art History. She has had the pleasure of working in a variety of art experiences, galleries, events, and workshops. Lady Brown believes art is a beacon to an alternative universe, where creativity releases our true selves. She is deeply honored to work alongside the community to assist with the beautification of New York City, and currently works as the Manager of Mural Operations for Groundswell in Brooklyn.
